Horti Medici Amstelodamensis Rariorum Tam
Orientalis
Published Amsterdam 1607 - 1701
A Magnificent Monument to the Amsterdam Physic
Garden, of which Jan Commelin was director, when
it was undergoing substantial enlargement, primarily
as a result of plant introduction from the Dutch East
Indies, West Indies and South Africa.
The plates are engraved from paintings by Johann
and Maria Moninckx. The work was brought out
posthumously by his nephew Caspar and many
of the exotic plants are displayed here for the first
time.
